An Answer!
Maybe you've been working with a therapist for a while, and while you've made some progress, you feel like you've reached a plateau. You're beginning to wonder if your circumstances are too complicated. Or if any other considerations are overlooked.
Perhaps you've been struggling your entire life, and despite your best efforts to ask for help, people just don't get you. They mistakenly assume you lack the willpower to accomplish your goals. Perhaps you've spent your entire life masking your problems, which seemed to work fine until the increasing demands of life or the addition of new roles became too much for you to handle. You wonder if you may have ADHD or Autism.
Your internal quest for an answer is a great start! But, you don't have to keep spinning your wheel. Psychological evaluations can point you in the right direction while providing a great deal of clarity and hope. They hold a lot of power as the first step in psychological intervention because it gives you a comprehensive picture of yourself.

How Can Psychological Assessment Help?
Psychological Assessment, a systemic process, offers critical information for accurate diagnoses and insight into one’s intellectual, social, emotional, behavioral, interpersonal, vocational challenges, or some combination of these domains.
A broad and thorough understanding of an individual opens the door
for an effective search for interventions that can effectively help you cope with the conditions and make well-informed decisions. But, more importantly, it also provides insights into your distinct way of thinking, feeling, and being, as well as the enormous strengths and potentials you may not be unaware you possess.
Imagine how relieved you will feel when you finally understand what has been preventing you from reaching your goals. Envision how liberating it would be to finally have the right term to describe your internal challenges without having to explain them to others over and over again. You can now visualize the steps you need to take to tap into your strengths and achieve your desired success.
What To Expect About Psychological Assessment?
-
① Clinical Interview
Before formal testing begins, we will meet for a 50-60 minute clinical interview to obtain a comprehensive history of your life, including developmental, familial, social, academic, occupational, medical, and mental history. The goal is to fully comprehend your concerns, how they affect your daily life, and crucial contexts to consider.
-
② Initial Screening
Some tests may be administered before or during the clinical interview appointment to screen for a wide range of potential concerns that may require clinical attention. They provide a glimpse into the nature and intensity of your concerns and indicate where to focus our subsequent assessment efforts.
-
③ Collateral Information
With your consent, we will consult with other professionals involved in your care and important people in your life who can provide critical information to help us complete the initial assessment of your concerns.
-
④ Formal Testing
The length of formal testing ranges from 6 to 8 hours, depending on your unique needs and the preliminary information gathered during the clinical interview. Testing may be spread out over several sessions to achieve optimal testing results.
-
⑤ Feedback Session
Following the completion of testing, all materials are scored and interpreted. You will receive a final written report during the in-depth feedback session. We will review your assessment results, provide diagnoses, and specify recommendations tailored to your needs and strengths.
What Does Formal Testing Mean?
Formal testing is an essential component of the entire evaluation process. It is standardized to ensure objectivity in the testing process. It means that all procedures, including test administration, scoring, and interpretation, are consistent so that everyone who takes the test does so in a comparable manner. Furthermore, the standards for evaluating test results are often derived from a group of individuals in the process of developing the test. The results will show us exactly where you stand in relation to other people of your age.
Your results will be available approximately 2-4 weeks after your formal testing appointment. This enables us to interpret and integrate all data in a tenacious, disciplined, and thorough approach. It also allows us plenty of time to write a comprehensive and easy-to-understand report for you and others involved in your care.

What to Look For in a Testing Psychologist
-
You deserve a truly competent psychologist who is a great therapist.
They understand how to put you at ease and collaborate with you throughout the process, allowing you to freely share all layers of your stories, struggles, and strengths.
-
You deserve a genuinely competent psychologist who is a scientist.
A psychological evaluation can be complex and nuanced, and formal testing is just a tool. A genuinely competent psychologist can quickly develop diagnostic hypotheses, recognize how to select appropriate tools to test these hypotheses, thoroughly understand each tool's strengths and limitations, and effectively interpret consistent and divergent data.
-
You deserve a truly competent psychologist who is multiculturally responsive.
They recognized that complexity of the assessment process is amplified by the multiple and subtle nuances of culture. Culture encompasses unique identities such as race/ethnicity, language, religious belief, social class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ability status. Some of the most popular measures, for example, are normed among dominant groups and may not be entirely applicable to minority populations. Therefore, you deserve a genuinely competent psychologist who tailors assessment to your unique characteristics and skillfully interprets psychological assessment findings within your specific cultural contexts and life circumstances.
-
You deserve a genuinely competent psychologist who is your best advocate.
They are committed to assisting you in obtaining much-deserved accommodations and locating valuable resources to help you truly shine in a world that can be difficult to navigate.
